Frequently Asked Questions

What do I expect on the first session?

We offer therapy both in-person and online.
Typical sessions are 1-hour in length, though longer or shorter sessions can be arranged.

Our first session will be focused on what brings you to therapy and to see if we're a good fit.

I will also go over confidentiality and my limits to maintaining confidentiality. I can help answer any questions or concerns you have.

Though my main concentration in private practice is on anxiety and couple issues, I have experience serving clients dealing with a wide-range of issues. I still may be able to help.

If I don't have the experience or knowledge, I can assist in finding a therapist who can help.

Why isn't Vivid Therapy Free?

Put simply, Counselling Kenya would not be possible as a free service. Operating as a private company, we currently receive no outside funding or donations supporting our service.

The fee is required in order to maintain our practice operations and to fairly compensate our dedicated full time licensed professional counsellors.

How long can I use Vivid Therapy?

Your length of time spent in therapy is dependent on a number of variables:

-The issue you're addressing
-Severity of symptoms
-How long you've been experiencing symptoms
-Consistency of attending sessions

There are no guarantees therapy will work. And often times things tend to get worse before they get better. This is because by looking more closely at our issues, we stir them up.

At the same time, most people find therapy to be helpful.

Clients often report relief and changes anywhere between 5 to 20 sessions.

Occasionally, clients will want to explore other areas in their lives and stay in therapy longer.

How frequently should attend therapy sessions?

Clients see the most progress when they attend sessions consistently.

Generally, once per week is best. This allows you time to process our sessions and experiment with new things during the week.

Less frequent or inconsistently attending sessions tends to be more about putting out fires, than long-term changes.

If your schedule does not permit you to attend sessions on a regular basis, I strongly encourage you to either wait until you have the time or really challenge yourself to make the time. The more consistent you are, the more positive changes you'll see, the less time you'll spend in therapy, and the more money you'll save.

Why can I choose online therapy as form of counselling?

Let’s face it. Traditional, in-person therapy is inconvenient.

Driving across town in the middle of your work day, feeling frustrated by wasted time while you’re stuck in traffic…

We believe your time matters.

Online therapy is a convenient, seamless experience that connects you with a highly-qualified therapist from the comfort of your office, home, or wherever your travels take you.

Is therapy confidential?

As a general rule, all therapy sessions are confidential and anything you discuss with your therapist will remain between the two of you, unless you request otherwise. This is as per protection rules by law, which all therapists legally need to follow, and no information from the session can be disclosed without prior written consent from you.

Do you accept Insurance?

We do not accept insurance because we believe in keeping your confidentiality.
Here are some reasons we do not work directly with insurance companies:

  • Using insurance gives the insurance companies the right to review any personal information discussed in session which includes: your therapy plan, your history, your personal struggles, and your personal goals.
  • Insurance companies typically require that I make a diagnosis which may be carried over in your record and effect different areas of need later in life.

How much does it cost?

Cost for each 1-hour session is Ksh 3,000 . Please don't pay until we have an appointment scheduled and I tell you to pay. Thanks!

What is your cancellation policy?

I ask that you notify me at least 24 hours before your scheduled time if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Clients are responsible for the full fee of a session missed without 24-hour notice.

What type of payments do you accept?

Payments are made via MPESA or PayPal using:
-Visa
-MasterCard
-American Express
-Discover
-JCB
-UnionPay
If you are unable to pay via MPESA or PayPal, please let me know when you contact me.

Who this therapy is for?

You may be a good candidate for therapy if you are:

Feeling burned out

Ever feel like there’s just too much to do, and it’s getting harder to bring yourself to get it all done? If you’re feeling overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and unable to meet the demands of your job, relationship or home life, talking to a therapist or other qualified CBT provider could be a helpful step to take.

Feeling stressed

It might be that you started feeling tightness in your chest, or it might be that you can never quite relax. If you’re experiencing tension, racing thoughts, irritability or restlessness, you may be feeling the weight of stress—and a therapist or other qualified CBT provider may be able to help

Feeling unfocused or unmotivated

Have you been feeling like your old hobbies aren’t doing it for you anymore? Have you been finding it hard to stay determined for longer stretches of time? If you’re having trouble staying on task, feeling present or finding the same joy in things you used to love, a therapist provider could help you.

Seeking relationship help with your partner

If you are struggling with relationship problems such as not feeling loved, not getting along, or are having trust issues (due to texting other people, hiding cell phones, or even affairs), please don’t wait one more day. A therapist help your relationship get better and happier

Having trouble sleeping

Maybe you can’t stop having nighttime thought spirals or agonizing over your to-do list. Maybe you can only sleep for a couple hours at a time. If you’re consistently struggling to fall asleep or stay asleep, connecting with a therapist provider could help you figure out if anxiety or depression are at the root of it and help you identify what to do.

Feeling depressed

Though it can feel scary to acknowledge, symptoms of DEPRESSION are more common than people realize. If you’re experiencing some feelings of sadness and noticing a loss of interest in daily activities, talking to a therapist or other qualified CBT provider could be a helpful step to take

Feeling anxious

Though it can feel scary to acknowledge, symptoms of anxiety are more common than people realize. If you’re experiencing looming worry and fear about everyday situations, having panic attacks, or suspect you have OCD symptoms, a therapist or other qualified CBT provider may be able to help

Struggling with alcohol and/or drug addiction

Choose therapy services as your alternative to Alcohol/Narcotics Anonymous 12-step programs/rehab for drug and alcohol dependency.
